Both artists have ‘amassed a decent online following’, and both artists have had their songs dominate on the charts. One artist is American, the other is Puerto Rican and has mostly a Latam fanbase. Let’s look at two different artists and I’ll speak very generally about them here: Bad Bunny and Olivia Rodrigo. But someday, I'd like to know they've grown enough to enable us to get back to casual enjoyment and watch the locals everywhere bop along to their new favorite BTS tune that they discovered organically. I'm not saying this retreat needs to happen immediately given the likelihood of a mainly Korean album will once again need some targeted support. I love the exposure of the #1 or another record getting smashed but if it doesn't have staying power because it is due to this excess, it doesn't feel as good. (Aside again: ugh the environmental wastefulness of physical sales and the shipping of the multiple copies.) As the excess has finally started to pay off over the last few years with #1s, real media coverage, and rapidly expanding fandom, I think we should start to think about easing up to let the organic growth return. People streaming 24/7 and buying multiple physical copies drive up numbers and takes away from the 'organic' growth. And while the music is great and the messages behind it inspiring, we should consider that some portion of that success is actually excess. It speaks volumes that they have managed #1 hits in both English and Korean (only the 23rd most spoken language). BTS have made incredible music and ARMY's desire to get them noticed is warranted. (Aside: What is the point of a chart? To gauge popularity and trends as of old? Or to see how fanatic a fan base is? Just count $?). If you can amass a decent online following, you can essentially guarantee a hit, regardless of how many people actually like the music. With the advent of technology over the past 20 years, people now have the opportunity to flood the streaming and purchasing channels with numbers to support their favorites. A Billboard Top 10 hit was part of the US zeitgeist and essentially 'organic'. In the real world, though, you actually heard the song a lot, probably knew people who liked or owned it, etc. I say 'appeared' because we know payola has always been there. The first group shot is an adorable recreation of one of their cute family portraits from 2017 Festa, while another photo takes fans back to when they paid homage to The Beatles on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”Ĭheck out their remaining family portrait photos below!īTS is currently preparing to make their comeback on June 10 with their anthology album “ Proof” and will celebrate their ninth debut anniversary on June 13.What are your thoughts on 'organic' success? As a Dope Old Person, I am finding myself a bit nostalgic for a time when high charting singles appeared to represent current popular music. The group often uses this opportunity to recreate some of their iconic past photos and this year was no exception. On June 3 at midnight KST, BTS signalled the start of their 2022 Festa festivities as they always do with an adorable set of “family portrait” group shots. This year, the group will release their updated family portraits, practice records from 2013 to 2022, a 2021/2022 selfie collection, a 2022 team dinner video, as well as a song for ARMY ! On June 2, BTS unveiled their first Festa poster, reminding fans to save the date for the group’s ninth anniversary celebrations. BTS has kicked off festivities for their upcoming ninth anniversary!Įvery year, BTS celebrates the anniversary of their debut with a “BTS Festa,” a two-week event that features lots of new content and surprises for their fans.

Each setting has an info tool tip explaining its function, and once you chose all your settings, you'll rarely need to return to the menus. This proved handy when I forgot where I'd parked.īecause of all this functionality, you have to take some time to study and understand the layers of menus on the app before getting behind the wheel. The app also has a car finder function that saves the last known location of your vehicle when you disconnect from the radar detector. You can toggle live traffic information to avoid upcoming congestion. Using the phone's GPS, you're also able to get route directions with live maps displayed in the Cobra app. If you discover a new trap, you can share it, so the database is forever growing stronger and (presumably) more accurate. The company claims it has more than 10,000 pinpoints in its database. The info is pulled from Cobra's AURA Alerts database of verified, crowd-sourced location points for red light cameras, caution areas, known speed traps, and speed cameras. The detector can't discover these on its own, but it keeps constant tabs on my whereabouts via the phone's GPS and matches my location with a list of known traps. Within a block of leaving the interstate and hitting city streets, I got an alert for a "photo-enforced intersection." In addition to an audible warning, an icon appeared on a map on the phone's screen. Toggling the Cobra's setting from Highway to City caused the K alerts to stop, but I'd still get the occasional Ka warning. I drove on, and every few miles the box squawked with another K alert. The City setting filters out the majority of false reads.Īfter getting back on the interstate, I spotted a CHP cruiser alongside bushes at the side of the road. To get around this, the Cobra, like most other radar detectors, has a highway/city toggle. It's also the frequency on which many automatic door openers operate, leading to occasional false alarms if you're driving past a 7-11. If the troopers in your state use pulse laser guns to track speed, the iRad 230 can sniff those out, too. The K band is used primarily by municipal police, and since the late 1990s, the Ka band has become a favorite of the highway patrol. Elsewhere, it has been replaced by newer speed detection systems that stick to the K and Ka bands. The oldest of these bands, X, is still in use by cops in Indiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Ohio. These signals operate on various frequency bands, which for speed detection are X, K, and Ka. Most speed detectors work by sending out high frequency radio waves, then measuring the time it takes for the reflected waves to return to the device. "Great," I thought, "this thing works, but what the hell does K stand for?" I pulled off the highway to find out, since that's the only intelligent (read: safe) way I can check the radar lingua franca and adjust the Cobra's app settings on the phone. No sooner than ten minutes after hitting the highway, the Cobra sounded a warning, first from a rather friendly sounding female voice announcing "K band detected," followed by some pulsating beeping sound effect. There are iOS and Android versions of the iRadar app, and it works with almost any device that can pair to the unit via Bluetooth. This was vital, since most of the Cobra's functions are controlled by the free smartphone app. There's a handy pass-through USB port on the power cord so you can keep your phone juiced as well. Be careful where you mount it-though most radar detectors are perfectly legal, you can be dinged for "obstructing vision." A detachable power cord plugs into your 12V cigarette lighter port. The $100 unit, a 5.5-ounce plastic box about the size of a pack of Marlboros, attaches to the windshield with a pair of bra-shaped suction cups. To test iRad, I plotted a circuit north out of San Francisco and through Napa Valley, on roads known to be littered with radar detection equipment and red light cameras. It's like Siri for giving Smokey the slip. But if you use a detector that pairs with your smartphone like Cobra's iRad 230, you get a host of fringe benefits too: crowdsourced speed trap warnings, live maps with traffic info, and a more refined experience overall. Sure, use one and you'll be better equipped to avoid any number of very expensive moving violation tickets. I've recently learned that mounting a radar detector in your car isn't just about fooling the fuzz. Real-time monitoring and reporting: These apps often provide real-time insights into how time is being spent. Hill = an area of high ground generally, a smaller and rounder than a mountain, and less steep. The inside of the smallest closed circle is the hilltop. A hill is shown on a map by contour lines forming concentric circles. From a hilltop, the ground slopes down in all directions. Hills, peaks, knolls, mountains: A hill, peak, knoll or mountain is an area of high ground.Major terrain features include hills, saddles, gullies, ridges, and depressions, and they each have characteristic contour lines that make it easy to pick them out in the landscape. By comparison, a ridge is a sloping line of high ground. “Map Reading and Land Navigation.” Washington, DC, fm: 3-25. The US Army states that “A ridgeline is a line of high ground, usually with changes in elevation along its top and low ground on all sides from which a total of 10 natural or constructed terrain features are classified”.Army, U. Bushwalkers going down the slope cannot observe most of the slope or the terrain at the bottom, so extra care must be taken when route finding.Īll terrain features are derived from a complex landmass known as a ridgeline, not to be confused with a ridge. Convex: Contour lines showing a convex slope on a map will be widely spaced at the top and closely spaced at the bottom.Bushwalkers going up the slope will find the terrain increasingly steep and challenging. Concave: Contour lines showing a concave slope on a map will be closely spaced at the top of the terrain feature and widely spaced at the bottom.contour lines may be so close that they create an impassable cliff line). Very challenging, or impossible walking (i.e. Steep: Contour lines showing a uniform, steep slope on a map will be evenly spaced, but close together.Gentle: Contour lines showing a uniform, gentle slope will be evenly spaced and wide apart.Totally flat ground has no contour lines.įour types of slopes that concern bushwalkers are gentle, steep, concave, and convex. This slope can be determined from the map by studying the contour lines-the closer the contour lines, the steeper the slope the farther apart the contour lines, the gentler the slope. The speed at which a bushwalking group can move is affected by the slope of the ground or terrain features. The rate of rise or fall of a terrain feature is known as its slope. On 1:25,000 maps usually used by bushwalkers, contours are either 10 or 20 m apart.įor measuring between contour lines see here. The ‘contour interval’ – the elevation between contours – is the vertical distance between adjacent contour lines. Elevation and slope are the two elements that determine how landforms physically appear and connect. The third USB stick I used was successful, and it took less than 15 minutes for Yosemite to boot up. This happened to me on the first couple tries, where it would freeze at 5 minutes left. If the installation of Yosemite freezes, it's probably because your USB drive is corrupted in some way. Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the "Format". Rename it Yosemite (or whatever you want).Change the "Partition Layout" to 1 Partition.Select the USB drive (not the partition).Open up Disk Utility and do the following. Step 1: Reformat Your USB Driveįirst, make sure you have a USB flash drive that's at least 8 GBs in size, then mount it. It's a lot more complicated, but gets the job done. If you don't want to use DiskMaker X or Terminal commands, this is another option for you. This could be fairly quickly or very long, depending on your system and USB drive. (You won't visibly see your password typing, but it's happening-believe me.) Type in your admin password to continue and the Enter again. After you get it in there, just hit the Enter key. To see how to correctly format your USB drive, please see Step #1 below in the "The Hardest Way" section. Just make sure your USB drive is already formatted correctly before proceeding. If you're more comfortable with Terminal commands, this is the method for you. If it's more toward the latter, you might get a " AppleEvent timed out" error, but it should still work, according to the developer (it worked for me). It could take anywhere from 15 minutes to to 45 minutes to finish, depending on your USB flash drive. If at all possible, please upgrade to OS X 10.10 Yosemite or higher before Sierra’s release on 09-20-2016 to maintain use of the odrive Finder extensions. Then just follow the rest of the prompts to start the disk-making process. The odrive desktop application will still run, for now, but the native Finder integration will no longer be available in these versions. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause folks still on Mavericks and below. Although it worked, and it was very helpful, it is not considered best practice for integration and is frowned upon by Apple. This meant 3rd parties that wanted to provide user-friendly context menus and icon overlays in Finder had to resort to what I’ve previously referred to as “black magic”. Unfortunately, Apple never made Finder extension integrations available in OS X versions prior to OS X Yosemite 10.10. There are a few reasons for this, but the largest is that we want to ensure, going forward, that we are working 100% within Apple’s desktop application guidelines. We wanted to let you folks know that, with the release of MacOS Sierra, we will be dropping odrive desktop support for OS X Mavericks 10.9 and earlier. If you watch the marketplace you can find them for $20 to $50 depending on condition. I think it works better because it sticks closer to the kettle style grill with a deeper bottom. The outrider is the older style of the now current Jumbo Joe. If you are Looking at 6 or more people then 18" Weber Outrider or a 18" Weber Midget Kettle would be the way to go. If you cut the top grate in half or buy a replacement grate that splits in half then it is easy to store things inside. If you are only cooking for 3 or 4 people the Weber Go Anywhere is fantastic. It's not quite the same if you do the same job on a gas fired grill. A fourteen hour smoked brisket is not something I need to do while camping.Īnd when it comes to bacon and eggs for breakfast, there is nothing quite like cooking bacon in an iron skillet placed directly on a wood fire followed by eggs fried in the bacon grease while your percolator coffee pot (preferably one of those blue enameled versions with white speckles) is doing it's thing right on the coals too. There is a certain satisfaction in going Old School for a change, and that's what camping is all about as far as I'm concerned. For cooking, assuming the law allows it, I just build a fire using found wood or charcoal and figure out a way to support the grate on stones or a couple of logs. I leave my grill(s) at home too and just bring a cooking grate and perhaps a bag of charcoal. So I leave my refrigerator, TV, washer, dryer, vacuum, stove, and microwave at home. Not completely cave-man style, but somewhat back to nature. The Q1200 runs $210 brand new, JJ $70 brand new, griddle for the Q runs $40.įor me, camping means escaping the luxury of modern life and going a little more primative. You can use the 1lb bottles or get the hose to use a 20lb tank. And, the side tables fold in for portability. I have a griddle that replaces half the grate for cooking breakfast and grilled veggies. That little bastard gets to 600 degrees in a snap and is great to cook on. The last few trips we've made were to places that were under a burn ban so the Q was a godsend. I even keep a single char basket in there for full 2 zone cooking. inside it for transport as well since the lid locks. You can keep the small chimney, tongs, firestarters, etc. The fire burns out safely and cleanly and in the morning you just need to dump the ash and lock it all back up for transport very cleanly. When the night is over and it's time to go to bed you just put the lid on, pull the lid bale on the handle to lock it up, and close the vents. You can use the JJ to cook dinner then afterwards just pull the upper grate and throw some logs right on the lit coals and now you have your fire pit for the evening. It's the same size as an 18 kettle and it has the lid bale that flips up to hold the lid on and the contents inside. As for charcoal, the Jumbo Joe is a necessity. this applies to lamb, pork and beef. So, I have 2 grills that are my absolute camper accessories. then roast it for 20 mins per pound on a medium low heat, there wont be any vinegar taste left trust me!!. that dries the blood up and seals the meat, making it retain its own moisture and flavours. It broils the meat !! for the correct way. rub it first on all sides with vinegar, salt and freshly ground black pepper, then sear it on an extremeley high heat on all sides."let it splash". dont ever add water to roasted joints of meat, it makes it taste like sh*te. The result was similar to steak in texture so i think for a more 'jointy' feel a tray with water in also on the grill with the lid down may hold more moisture - but ours was extremely tasty and one of the favourites of the week. To create a purple dye in the past was a difficult and expensive process - for thousands of years only the Phoenicians knew the secret of turning sea snails in to this luxurious color.Ĭlothes and materials dyed purple were so costly that the color became associated with only the rich royals and clergy and this exclusivity expanded to amethyst gemstones which at the time were as rare as diamonds and rubies. You can buy Carolina Reaper hot sauce, fresh or dried peppers, seeds, and powder. The Carolina Reaper, however, can be readily purchased through online spice retailers or specialty grocery stores. Currently, you can only taste its heat through the Last Dab Apollo hot sauce produced by Smokin’ Ed Currie. Given its recent debut, the Apollo pepper is not yet available to purchase. However, the Apollo pepper packs more pure firepower. While both provide some fruitiness, the Carolina Reaper seems more versatile for cooking applications thanks to its more complex flavor. Flavor profile: Sweet, fruity with subtle smoky undertones. Here’s how the Apollo and Carolina Reaper compare: Carolina Reaperīeyond just burn-your-face-off heat, chili peppers also have unique flavor components. But heat level tells only part of the story when tasting these peppers. It’s clear from the numbers that the Apollo pepper surpasses the Carolina Reaper when it comes to sheer spiciness. Both Apollo Pepper and Carolina Reaper are American hybrid breed by Ed Currie, South Carolina, USA.Now that we’ve introduced these two fire-breathers, let’s compare their stats: Originating from South Carolina, this chili packs a mean punch while also imparting some fruity, sweet notes. With its gnarly, wrinkled appearance and fierce heat, it’s easy to see how the Carolina Reaper got its ominous name. That’s about 417 times spicier than a jalapeno pepper! The former world record holder for hottest pepper, the Carolina Reaper clocks in between 1.4 million to 2.2 million Scoville Heat Units. This pepper is not for the faint of heart or tongue! How Hot is the Carolina Reaper? Some tasting notes describe the Apollo pepper as having an earthy, fruity flavor, but its sheer spiciness overwhelms most tasting attempts. So the Apollo pepper could be a whopping 389 times hotter than a jalapeno! This is due to the expert breeding of its parent peppers – the Carolina Reaper and Pepper X – to create a more potent hybrid. To put that into perspective, a jalapeno ranks around 8,000 SHUs. While its exact Scoville rating is unknown, estimates put it around 3.18 million Scoville Heat Units (SHUs).
